Duaa is an Iraqi-American painter, poet and activist. Her early projects included abstract portraits, multimedia explorations and poems as fragments to what became a lifelong pursuit to create. She later earned her BFA from the School of Museum of Fine Arts / Tufts University and currently works primarily with oil on canvas, intertwining painting and poetry as ways of storytelling. Her work portrays the mystical human experiences as pathways for transformation and interconnectedness.

Duaa’s work is a reflection of her experience as a first generation Iraqi-American who lived through the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Her work explores her identity beyond the man-made borders as she uses her interpersonal interest in mysticism and spirituality as ways of healing and understanding to expand one’s consciousness. In her paintings, she advocates for animals and nature, portraying them as guides, healers and an inseparable part of our unfolding, mysterious journey.
